This Pioneer High School Continuous School Improvement profile was developed to document the changes and progress our school has made while working to continuously improve everything we do. The profile provides the Pioneer community with an ongoing means for self-assessment, communication, continuous improvement, and accountability.
The categories used in our profile are based upon Best Practices in the Educational Community and the AdvancED Standards for Quality. Utilizing categories within the AdvancEd process Pioneer High School has reflected, planned, evaluated, and directed a process for continuous improvement. Our efforts have focused on continuous improvement initiatives from national, state, and local needs for Pioneer High School. Our vision, mission, and beliefs are the foundation and underlying principles for excelling in academic achievement while offering a quality educational program to the Ann Arbor community. The profile is divided into categories that align with AdvancED quality standards. Within each category is a description of the intent of the standard and evidence that demonstrates Pioneer High School's adherence to the standard.

Overall themes that have emerged include: reviewing student academic and achievement data within classrooms, departments and at the building level; having professional development targeted in support of district, building, and department needs; dedicating time for planning and implementing school improvement needs by students, staff, parents, and administration.

It describes who we are, our vision for the school, goals, plans, progress, and achievements in the context of the Ann Arbor school district and community. Our profile demonstrates a focus on building a culture of commitment to continuous school improvement while facing district budgetary concerns, staff transfers, and a decreasing student population due to the addition of a new high school. During this time of transition for Pioneer High School our student achievement did not decrease but instead was maintained or improved. Pioneer High School has provided the Ann Arbor community with progress and growth while focusing on maintaining a commitment to excellence.
This profile was designed with input from the building administration, interested students and parents, and our PHS Continuous School Improvement Team. The content evolved from discussions during professional development days, departmental meetings, faculty meetings, student council meetings, PTSO meetings, PHS Department Chair meetings, PHS Administrative Team meetings, Data Team meetings and PHS Continuous School Improvement meetings. During this time staff was asked to contribute evidence about our progress and growth to show changes within our educational practice.
Pioneer High School continues to evolve by focusing on the future needs of our community while preparing our students to explore their opportunities to learn and be successful in a career or at college. We strive to do this through a rigorous and relevant academic curriculum, and from a commitment toward the social development of our students.
